27 stycznia pożegnał się z tym światem amerykański poeta, pisarz oraz krytyk JOHN UPDIKE. Wiedział, że był ciężko i nieuleczalnie chory i krótko przed śmiercią napisał swoje własne „REQUIEM”:

 „It came to me the other day;

When I die, no one would say.

‘Oh, what a shame! So young, so full

Of promise – depths inplumbable!’

Will greet my overdue demise;

The wide response will be, I know,

‘I thought he died a wile ago’.
